Deuteronomy 18:15, 18
"The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him... I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words in his mouth."
New Testament Fulfillment
John 6:14; Acts 3:22
"After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, "Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world." ... Moses said, "The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you.""
Commentary
The "prophet like Moses" was a major category of messianic expectation in Second Temple Judaism. Jesus parallels Moses in many ways: both were preserved from infant death, both spent time in Egypt, both fasted 40 days, both gave the Law (Moses on Sinai, Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount), and both mediated covenants.
