Born of a Woman
Written: ~1400 BC→Fulfilled: ~5 BC
The very first messianic prophecy in Scripture promises a deliverer born of a woman who will crush the serpent's head.
Prophecy & Fulfillment
Old Testament Prophecy
Genesis 3:15
"And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."
New Testament Fulfillment
Galatians 4:4
"But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law."
Commentary
Known as the Protoevangelium (first gospel), this verse in Genesis establishes the foundational promise of a Redeemer. The phrase "her offspring" is singular, pointing to a specific individual rather than humanity in general. Paul explicitly identifies this as fulfilled in Jesus, born of Mary.
